The Greatest Farewell Rally

The rallies and the final farewell for Zubeen Garg were among the largest ever seen in recent history of the world, reflecting the depth of the connection he had with the people of Assam.

The rallies were deeply emotional. These were moments when people of all walks of life came together — students, auto-drivers, political leaders, ordinary citizens — unified by grief and anger. Many rallies began quietly with tributes, then grew louder with chantings and signs. In every corner of Assam, shops remained closed, streets were hushed, and the cultural pulse of Assam seemed to pause as people mourned. Almost every gathering featured candlelight vigils, singing of Zubeen Garg’s songs, carrying of his portraits, and public displays of grief.

The legend's final journey apparently drew an enormous crowd; his body was kept in state for public tributes, and the funeral (with state honours) drew such large numbers that it has been noted in media and record claims as one the greatest funeral rally of all time.

Record recognition: The funeral has been reported to have been entered in the Limca Book of Records as the fourth-largest public gathering worldwide (for a funeral / farewell) with comparison to the funerals of Michael Jackson, Pope Francis, Queen Elizabeth II.
